Quote from: krakra on January 13, 2025, 21:34:07 PMVar den?Quote from: Dr. Popcorn on January 13, 2025, 21:26:15 PMVirker som en veldig ålreit fyr.

Magnus Warming is the first new signing of SV Darmstadt 98. What are the strengths of the 22-year-old Dane? Where does it still have deficits? Toke Møller Theilade is a Danish football journalist who has been closely following Warming's journey for years. For the lily blog he wrote a guest post about the player.
Observations on Magnus Warming
It is no shame that most supporters of SV Darmstadt 98 were not familiar with the name of new signing Magnus Warming. The 22-year-old Dane is anything but a household name among football fans. Nevertheless, the loan of the player from FC Turin could prove to be a clever move by the Darmstadters.
Warming grew up in the Danish port town of Nykøbing Falster. He began his career at the leading local club Nykøbing FC. His talent quickly became apparent. In 2015 - Warming was just 15 years old - he signed with top club Brøndby IF.
Previously, he had already trained several times a week at the club in Copenhagen with its U15s. Expectations of the young player were high right from the start. His coaches repeatedly praised his development. Fans quickly began dreaming that they would soon be singing his name from the iconic Sydsiden grandstand at Brøndby Stadium.
German coach gave Magnus Warming record
Warming impressed from the start with his offensive qualities. Above all, his dribbling skills were praised by the coaches of the Brøndby Youth Academy. Just two years after joining Brøndby, he became the youngest player in the club's history when he came on as a substitute with ten minutes left in the Superliga match against SønderjyskE.
The head coach was the German Alexander Zorniger, former coach of RB Leipzig and VfB Stuttgart. Even though he didn't play a game for Brøndby after his debut, Warming took a big step forward under Zorniger's leadership. Recognising the importance of a professional lifestyle and hard work on the training ground, he developed into a true professional.
At the age of 18, he returned to his parent club Nykøbing on loan. In the twelve months there, he played 23 games and scored five goals. That's why Lyngby brought Boldklub back to the Superliga in the first division.
Descent and the leap abroad
Switching to Lyngby turned out to be a good decision. The small club near Copenhagen is known for its youth development and the trust they place in young players. Warming also benefited from this.
Although he spent most of the first six months on the bench, he still scored two goals during this time. His breakthrough came the following season, in which he became a regular player. He scored four goals, including against top club FC Midtjylland and his former club Brøndby. At Lyngby, he impressed both on the wings and as a central striker.
His good performances brought him to the U21 national team. But at the end of his second season at Lyngby, he was relegated and it quickly became clear that Warming would not go back to the 2nd division. SV Darmstadt 98 was already interested in warming, as was the Norwegian champion Bodø-Glimt. But Warming opted for a move to Torino FC in Serie A.
After the difficult time in Italy, Magnus Warming wants to get back on his feet with the lilies
In retrospect, the move to Italy was probably not the best decision. He played just 53 minutes in four league games. He told Danish media Bold.dk that it had been a big challenge to adapt to Italian football. "Everything was difficult down there. It was a completely new language that I didn't understand, and I had to learn a new tactic.
He was also a little intimidated to go to Italy alone at the age of 21. "It also influenced me on the pitch. I became an introvert, hid a little. I wasn't aggressive."
What kind of player is Magnus Warming?
Warming is a technically skilled player who plays best on the wings. With his speed, he can outrun many opponents in sprint duels. In the 2020/2021 season, he was ranked 34th among the fastest players in the Danish Superliga with a measured speed of 5.16 kilometers per hour.
He also has an eye for the goal. His penalty area play is good and he knows where to find open spaces. He also has his qualities in finishing, especially his right foot can be a deadly weapon. In the 2020/21 season, he had a goal rate of 16 percent, which was a decent figure considering Lyngby's small number of big chances.
There is no doubt that Warming thinks offensively first. In Lyngby, less than 25 percent of his passes went back. His pass completion rate was over 72 percent. He prefers possession of the ball, but can also play directly. In his second season at Lyngby, he created 23 chances for his teammates.
What Magnus Warming learned in Italy
Although Warming didn't play much at Torino last season, he learned a lot, especially when it came to the decisions made in the game. In Denmark, he had a tendency to get bogged down in dribbling.
"I've become much better at tactics and interacting with the others," he said. "I've focused the most on how I play and when I dribble." Italian football is much more tactical than Danish football, where it always goes forward. "It's all much more compact in Italy and there are fewer free spaces."
Still needs time
Due to the lack of match practice, Warming will probably need some time to arrive in Darmstadt and regain his old speed and confidence. If he manages to reach the level that made him one of Denmark's most exciting players two years ago, he can and will be able to become a very important player for Darmstadt.
